Bingley Music Live announce top 3 main stage billing (press release)

Bingley Music Live organisers have revealed the top three main stage billing including the final headliner at the three-day council-run Myrtle Park festival on 1-3 September.

The Wombats are joining previously announced Manic Street Preachers and The Kaiser Chiefs as the third headline act. Also joining the line-up are Maximo Park, Pete Docherty, Soul II Soul, Feeder, Milburn and Cabbage.

Friday will see Maximo Park and Cabbage paving the way for Manic Street Preachers. Pete Docherty and Milburn will take slots on Saturday below The Kaiser Chiefs. And Sunday will have headliners The Wombats supported by Feeder and Soul II Soul.

Sunday headliners The Wombats formed in 2003 at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts where vocalist/guitarist Matthew Murphy, drummer Dan Haggis and bassist Tord Ă˜verland-Knudsen were students. Their 2007 UK debut 'A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation' went platinum. Hits including 'Let's Dance to Joy Division' and 'Kill the Director' were popular indie dance floor fillers. The band celebrates the 10-year anniversary of 'A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation' this year with a show in June at Brixton Academy. They are also working on their fourth studio album, scheduled for release at the end of summer 2017.

Making a welcomed return to Myrtle Park is former BML headliner Maximo Park. The 4 piece from Newcastle are set to launch their sixth album 'Risk to Exist' which is due for release next month prior to their UK tour in May. The band are Paul Smith (vocals), Duncan Lloyd (guitar), Lukas Wooller (keyboard) and Tom English (drums). Formed in 2000 their debut album 'A Certain Trigger' was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2005. Their catchy 2007 single 'Our Velocity' was the band's first UK Top 10 single and features on two video games.

Libertines and Babyshambles frontman Pete Docherty has in the past been the focus of tabloid journalists. But he also has some successful solo work under his belt. Currently touring his second solo album 'Hamburg Demonstrations' his dad recently joined him on stage at a Brussels gig.

Making another return to the festival are Welsh rockers Feeder. Formed in 1992, with the original name of Reel the band's musical style has been compared to The Police, Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. Their single 'Buck Rogers' brought the band to prominence in 2001. They have clocked up nine studio albums and had 75 top 25 singles between 1997 and 2012. Nine album 'All Bright Electric' was released last October and they are currently on a UK tour.

Soul II Soul started life as a sound system in the 1980s, playing records at house and street parties. Their breakthrough single in 1989, featuring Caron Wheeler on lead vocals was 'Keep on Movin'' which preceded their first album 'Club Classics Vol. One' which peaked at number 1 in the UK album charts. From this came the Grammy Award-winning 'Back to Life'. After a number of line-up changes and disbandment in the early 2000s the band reunited in 2007. Soul II Soul released a single entitled 'A New Day' in 2016 and retains original members Jazzie B and Caron Wheeler.

Sheffield indie rock quartet Milburn have been credited with giving Arctic Monkeys a helping hand by having them as a support act on their 2005 tour. Their debut album 'Well well well' reached number 32 in the UK album chart in 2006. Milburn have also previously performed on the Myrtle Park stage and were part of the very first festival in 2007 as support to the Charlatans. The band split up in 2008 but reunited in 2016 for a series of live shows and to record a new single, double A-side 'Midnight Control/Forming of a Fate'.

Manchester-based five-piece 'Cabbage' describe themselves as serving up "an idiosyncratic satirical attack in the form of discordant neo post-punk". Among the subject matter of their songs are dinner ladies and austerity.

Coun Sarah Ferriby, Executive Member for Environment, Sport & Culture, said: "There is such a varied line up here that I am sure there is something to fit all music tastes. Ticket sales are already at a record high for this time of year and there is a real buzz around this year's festival. With lots more acts still to be announced this year's festival is looking better than ever."

Tickets are on sale via Ticketline and available from the festival website www.bingleymusiclive.com

The Council has joined forces with Bradford & Bingley Sports Club to provide this year's camping facilities - more details can be found on the festival website.

More acts will be announced over the coming weeks. For updates and the latest information follow us on Twitter @BingleyFestival, Facebook @bingleymusiclive, Instagram : - thebingleymusiclivefestival #BML17 Hashtag.
