Travel plan advice for Bingley Music Live festival goers (press release)

A rail strike by Northern Rail is set to affect some festival goers leaving Bingley Music Live on Friday 1 September.

The organisers are encouraging those who were planning to travel by train to make alternative arrangements in advance of travelling to the festival.

Buses will be running to and from Bingley as normal with local bus companies increasing capacity by running double decker buses in place of single decker buses.

Festival organisers, Bradford Council, have increased the capacity of the park and ride facility for the festival and have arranged for extra overspill car parks for those wanting to drive.

People who have pre-booked a taxi going towards Keighley and Skipton are advised to arrange to meet their taxi on Keighley Road outside All Saints Church. Those with a pre-booked taxi travelling towards Bradford and Leeds are advised to arrange to meet their taxi on Bradford Road outside Beckfoot School.

There will also be a taxi rank on Wellington Street outside Bingley Railway Station.

Those who are arranging for someone to pick them up are asked to bear in mind that there will be road closures in the centre of Bingley.

There is also the option of car sharing with Freewheelers and GoCarShare offering this service.

People are also reminded that there is still space available for people to camp at the Bradford and Bingley Sports Club which is within walking distance of the festival site. To book camping visit www.beescamping.co.uk

People may also want to delay their travel and stay on in Bingley continuing their night at the many bars and pubs in Bingley before travelling home when the buses and taxis may be quieter.

A Bradford Council spokesperson, said: “It is unfortunate that the strike by Northern Rail coincides with the first day of Bingley Music Live.

“Even though this is something which is entirely out of our control, we have tried to put things in place to help those who were planning on using the trains.

“We ask that people make alternative arrangements in advance of festival and have patience.”

The strike is planned for Friday 1 and Monday 4 so is not expected to affect the Saturday 2 or Sunday 3 of the festival.
