LIVE AT LEEDS ANNOUNCE PALMA VIOLETS AS SPECIAL GUESTS (press release)

Live At Leeds are proud to announce the addition of very special guests Palma Violets to the lineup for this weekend.

London four piece Palma Violets’ fusion of indie, garage rock and psychedelia has gained them a legion of fans and that’s hardly surprising given the quality of their material. Debut album ‘108’ contained such anthems in the making as ‘Step Up For The Cool Cats’ which earned them the prestigious ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show as well as NME’s ‘Track Of The Year’, the incredible ‘Best Of Friends’. The band plays on Saturday in the intimate confines of The Faversham at 21:45.

Slotting into a lineup already including the recently announced Frank Turner as well as the likes of ¡Forward, Russia!, Albert Hammond Jr, Bipolar Sunshine, Blood Red Shoes, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Chloe Howl, Circa Waves, Clean Bandit, Courntey Barnett, Drenge, Ella Eyre, Fuck Buttons, Royal Blood and The Hold Steady this year is the strongest lineup yet.

In addition, pop starlet and singer-songwriter Nina Nesbitt will be performing an extra special Live At Leeds Takeover Dr Martens instore at 6:30PM. With debut album ‘Peroxide’ proving a roaring success this is a chance to catch an up close glimpse of one of the UK’s hottest stars.

Frank Turner joins Live At Leeds line-up (press release)

With a lineup already filled to the brim with emerging and established talent Live At Leeds are ecstatic to announce the addition of Frank Turner to this year’s lineup for a rare solo performance.

Frank Turner’s tireless touring since the demise of his former band Million Dead has placed him as one of the UK’s brightest hopes and most admired artists. Travelling the world with his anthemic brand of folk-punk, over the last few years he has gone from the backs of pubs onto UK festival mainstages and the heady heights of London’s prestigious Wembley Arena. Across five albums of powerful, heartfelt songs the likes of ‘The Way I Tend To Be’ he has deservedly become one of the musicians spearheading a true guitar renaissance in the UK.

Slotting into a lineup already including the likes of ¡Forward, Russia!, Albert Hammond Jr, Bipolar Sunshine, Blood Red Shoes, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Chloe Howl, Circa Waves, Clean Bandit, Courntey Barnett, Drenge, Ella Eyre, Fuck Buttons, Royal Blood and The Hold Steady this year is the strongest lineup yet.

The Cribs to Headline Long Division Festival (press release)

The Cribs will play their first public hometown show in seven years at this year’s Long Division Festival.

The band will play at Unity Hall on the opening Friday night of the festival kicking off a full weekend of music, art and comedy across Wakefield city centre.

The Wedding Present will play on Saturday night at the festival and will be joined by Gruff Rhys, Toy, Summer Camp, Roddy Woomble, I Like Trains, Frankie & The Heartstrings, The Membranes, Beans On Toast, Candy Says, Post War Glamour Girls, Bleech, Brawlers, Islet, Joel RL Phelps, Randloph’s Leap, Witch Hunt, Jamie Roberts & Katriona Gilmore, Milloy, The Ainsley Band, VerseChorusVerse, Nadine Carina, Treason Kings, The Sunbeams, Ruby Macintosh, The Reacharounds, The Grand, Protectors, Mi Mye, Knuckle, Gunnarson, Forever Cult, Clandestines, Aztec Doll, Jamisaysmile and many more to be announced.

Speaking about The Cribs’ return to Wakefield, Gary Jarman said: “The last couple of years it’s been pretty difficult not to have been aware of Long Division, even on a national level. Wakefield really seems to be standing up on its own now when it comes to the arts, and Long Division is an important piece of that. To have great bands come through your hometown like Jeffery Lewis, The Wedding Present, Herman Dune and The Vaselines is pretty amazing, and this year we are really excited to be a part of it.

“We don’t get chance to play Wakefield as much as we did in the early days, particularly with two of us living in the USA now, so our 'hometown' shows are now a special occasion for us.  With us currently being in between records, this year seems like the perfect opportunity.”

This year’s festival will run from Friday 12 – Sunday 14 September. The venues so far include Unity Hall (two stages), Warehouse 23, The Orangery, Henry Boons, Westgate Chapel and Players.

Tickets for The Cribs are priced at £30 with tickets for Saturday priced at £22.50. This year a limited number of VIP tickets will be available for £50. This gives access to all the Saturday events as well as The Cribs Friday gig.

Dean Freeman, organiser of Long Division Festival, said: “With new venues and new dates, this year’s Long Division feels like a fresh start. We’re thrilled to have our biggest venue yet with Unity Hall and to finally have The Cribs back in Wakefield is something we have been striving for years. With Sunday’s line up still to come and more bands to announce, today is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Tickets will be available on Good Friday (Friday 18 April) from 10am at Wah Wah Records (Wakefield), Jumbo Records (Leeds), Crash Records (Leeds), Debut Records (Barnsley) and See Tickets.

The line up for Long Division Festival so far is –

Friday 12 September – The Cribs at Unity Hall

 Saturday 13 September

Musicport Festival Saturday Night Headliner Confirmed (Press Release)

Discovered by Peter Gabriel  the irresistible Lo’Jo are a musical street caravan, an iconoclastic group whose fans include Björk, and John Zorn. With 30 years under their belt this collective of musicians from the south-west of France confirmed their position as one of the world’s leading musical outfits when their tenth studio album CinĂ©ma El Mundo topped many Best Of lists in 2012. They   were named as Best Group in international music magazine Songlines 2013 Awards.

Renowned for their astonishing live shows the bands music embraces North African song, African flavours and percussion, classic French chanson, dub, rock and Romany music. Leader Denis PĂ©an’s songs are written in French, English, Spanish and often uses words that just sound right, even if they don’t really exist! The seven-piece band also includes two sisters of Berber origin, Nadia and Yamina Nid el Mourid, whose astonishing close harmony is one of Lo’Jo’s most distinctive features. With a Caribbean bassist and French drummer, the line-up is truly multicultural; and Lo’Jo, who are based in the western city of Angers in the Loire valley, are indefinably attuned to how each of their many influences fit into the overall weave of their compelling music.

Cinema el Mundo

Their tenth studio album, CinĂ©ma el Mundo, betrayed no sign at all that they intend to slow down, and features prestigious musical guests such as the legendary Robert Wyatt (who opens the album intoning in French) and Ibrahim Ag Alhabib from Tinariwen. Thirty years of travelling with open ears has given Lo'Jo's sound a unique richness. They play funky dubbed-up chanson, raw yet intricate, with a bewildering variety of influences. Their sound is full of melancholy, nostalgia, and empathy with the displaced, marginalised and lonely. The pride and strength of culture of some of these soulmates – the Touareg, Creole and Berber to name three – add further layers to Lo’Jo’s musical palette and instrumental line-up.

Poet-in-chief Denis PĂ©an takes us on journeys, across the ocean, to inhospitable new places, sits with us on a cafĂ© terrace, regards the displaced, engages with all those who speculate on what it means to be a human being in the 21st century, the limitations of choice and quest for liberty. Not only did they co-found the legendary Festival In The Desert, they've also collaborated with Tinariwen and worked with Robert Plant’s guitarist Justin Adams. Sometimes they let others into their glorious garden.

'The hypnotic pull of finely detailed yet, paradoxically, boldly sparse arrangements, seems to stop time. Exquisite.'
The Independent

Jim McLaughlin Musicport director said “We are really excited to be bringing one of the most musically intriguing, intense and challenging groups on the International music stage to Whitby. We know that their live set is something to behold and very much look forward to the great reaction they will undoubtedly elicit from our wonderful audience.”
